David August
Following the expansive and multidisciplinary work of VĪS, David August returns to the instrument that shaped his earliest musical language: the piano. With HYMNS, the Italian-German composer presents a deeply personal body of work that strips away the vast electronic architectures he became known for and narrows the focus to something direct and intimate. Written and recorded in 2021 through periods of isolation and improvisation, HYMNS marks a conscious return to August’s origins — not as a classically trained interpreter, but in a raw and immediate dialogue with the instrument itself.
For this special solo performance, August performs the music of HYMNS and more live at the piano. The concert will unfold as a sequence of prepared-piano improvisations shaped by live processing, silence and soundscapes. If VĪS explored the evolution of humanity through vast sonic landscapes, Hymns turns inward. It is music that recalls light rather than darkness — quiet but intense, restrained yet emotionally direct. This solo piano performance offers a rare opportunity to experience David August in his most exposed and essential form.
