Marlon Funaki

Marlon Funaki is a Southern California–based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist blending psychedelic indie rock with R&B, hip-hop, jazz, and shoegaze influences. A self-taught producer and sonic explorer, he crafts immersive, emotive soundscapes shaped by diverse musical roots and a passion for experimentation. Now signed to Warner Records, Funaki continues to push genre boundaries while building a global fanbase through his evocative recordings and magnetic live shows.

Born and raised east of Los Angeles, Marlon Funaki grew up in a multicultural, music-loving household that shaped his eclectic sonic palette. Initially trained in symphonic and marching band, he eventually gravitated toward jazz and later taught himself guitar, bass, keys, and production, becoming a true multi-instrumentalist and self-sufficient creator.

After busking in Redlands and working at Guitar Center to fund his growing studio setup, Funaki immersed himself in recording and production, blending influences ranging from classic rock and psychedelia to Afro-funk, reggae, and hip-hop. He self-released his debut EP The Universal Language in 2020, followed by his full-length album Monterey Village in 2022, gaining global attention for his ethereal yet energetic psychedelic indie sound.

Known for his passionate live performances and meticulous studio craft, Funaki has toured extensively, building momentum through word-of-mouth and sold-out shows. Now signed to Warner Records, he continues to explore evolving soundscapes, merging soulful indie rock with genre-bending textures while embracing vulnerability and experimentation in his songwriting. With new releases on the horizon, Funaki is carving out a singular, ever-evolving musical universe that sounds unmistakably his own.
